ARE YOU ADDICTED TO TRAVEL?

Instead of “How are you?”

do your friends ask,

“Where have you been?”

  • Do most of your emails come from travel websites?

  • Do you buy your travel insurance by the year?

  • Do you refer to airports by their three-letter codes?

  • Do your friends cringe when you are at a movie and you say, “I’ve been there!”

  • Do you plan your next trip while on a trip?

  • Do you miss special events at home because you are on a trip?

  • Do you have sleepless nights planning trips?

  • Do you spend more money on travel than anything else?

  • Do you persuade others to travel?

I admit it: I am a travelholic.

I cannot live without travel, despite the fact that I think Vancouver Island is heaven on earth.

Travelling has opened my mind and soul to life in a global world. Every day that I see a new vista or talk with someone about their culture, it sends me on a travel high.

The compassion I have developed from my passion to explore the world has made me a far better person. I understand more about many of the world’s conflicts. I have learned both sides of the history and stories that caused the troubles.

I have been welcomed into the homes of people who have lived through poverty, wars and cultural strife and still smile, laugh and share what they have.

I have seen the Wonders of the World and know there are far more than seven.

My 12-Step Program to encourage the addiction:

  • Accept you are powerless — just keep planning.

  • Believe there are others who know more than you — absorb their knowledge.

  • Turn your dreams and visions — over to a travel agent or travel website you trust.

  • Travel with a conscience — don’t be a boorish tourist.

  • Make a plan, and when it goes astray — enjoy the experience.

  • Remove all the defects of your character — when in Rome…

  • Never complain — when things are not done the same way as at home.

  • Encourage others — to join you, but if you can’t find anyone — go anyway.

  • Remember — that the road less travelled is usually more rewarding.

  • Take inventory, brag if you want — but not too much.

  • Remember — getting lost is just another adventure.

  • Appreciate — how fortunate and lucky you are to see this wonderful world.
